It started as a custom order, based on a design from the back corners of my brain, but it turned out so exceptional we decided it would be wrong not to offer it to the world. We started with the Ultra 24", and have scaled the design for three sizes creating an entirely new line, all based on the same port design that makes it so special. The 24" was the first, as pictured above, and is done in two styles; 26"wide 35"deep 60" tall or 35" wide 26" deep 60" tall. The 21" is 26" wide 26" deep 60" tall. The 18" is 26" deep 20" wide 55" high. The 18" and 21" will be available with two driver options, the base option to maximize low end output value and an upgraded option to maximize performance across the spectrum.
Why is this design special? Well we have not offered many ported subwoofers over the years because so often a port design must be compromised in some way or another, especially for an ultra low tuned design. Either you have to make the port too small and live with port noise or you have to make it too long and limit the upper range of the subwoofer due to pipe resonances, often a design must balance a bit of both, and as a result some aspect causes unwanted noise long before maximum output capability is reached. Because the main philosophy behind all our designs is that there not be detectable levels of any kind extraneous noise or distortion with real world content right up to within the last couple db of maximum output, we had to push the envelope of what's possible, just like we have had to to with all our subwoofers to meet this standard. What we have designed here takes all the fine details of port function, air flow, resonance and fine tuned a massive, curved, and flared, high flowing, and low turbulence port to virtually eliminate all the downsides to a port, while maximizing efficiency and minimizing compression. It was not easy but the result; staggering levels of output with extension to 9hz, while maintaining virtually identical sound quality to a sealed design. Win win.
